SELCS is a world-leading centre for teaching, research and public engagement, focussing on the literature, linguistic traditions, history, sociology, philosophy, art, film and other aspects of the cultures associated with the languages we teach.
The SELCS Professional Services team provides a wide range of administrative support to facilitate the delivery of teaching and research activity.
The team comprises 15.4 Full Time Equivalents (FTE) which is broadly split between two functions, Education Administration and Student Experience (EASE) and Operations We work collaboratively across the two functions within the department and wider cross-Faculty teams; all team members share responsibilities, learn from and cover for each other as necessary.
About the role
This post is one of several identical roles and provides professional, comprehensive administrative support for teaching and students in SELCS at all levels and is part time, 0.6 FTE equivalent to three days a week.
The post holder will work collaboratively, advising and sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues as necessary. They will builds and maintains good working relationships with academic colleagues across SELCS, ensuring administrative tasks are handled appropriately.
The post holder is expected to take annual leave appropriately and may on occasion need to work outside of standard office hours in order to meet the requirements of the post (time off in lieu will be given in these instances).
About you
The successful applicants will have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including Mathematics and English Language) or equivalent, or having acquired relevant experience.
With good computer skills, including using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and the internet, they will need to have good interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of people, including the ability to relate to staff and students in a teaching and learning context.
They will be able to prioritise and organise own workload, meet time-critical schedules and to collate and record information accurately using a variety of media.
