Research Fellow (Screening & Pharmacology)

The Alzheimer's Research UK Drug Discovery Institute at University College London (ARUK UDDI) is a member of the Alzheimer’s Research UK funded Dementia Discovery Alliance (DDA) – a highly successful trilogy of institutes (alongside Oxford and Cambridge) translating cutting-edge academic innovations into medicines for patients living with neurodegenerative diseases.

The ARUK UCL DDI, organisationally placed within the Department of Neuromuscular Diseases, is integrated into the world-renowned UCL Neuroscience community and closely aligned with the Dementia Research Institute at UCL.

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join us at the ARUK UCL DDI, which is dedicated to finding new therapies for neurodegenerative disease.

Reporting to a Senior Research Fellow within the Biology group, you will make key contributions to our drug discovery programmes. As a member of project teams, you will work collaboratively with project leads, biology and chemistry scientists within the ARUK UCL DDI, and established drug discovery experts across UCL and contract research organisations (CROs). You will be responsible for developing and running novel assays and screening platforms, including phenotypic models, suitable for screening both small molecule compound and siRNA libraries.

The post is available immediately and funded by Alzheimer’s Research UK until 30 April 2026 in the first instance.

You will have a BSc and PhD in a biological discipline, or comparable research experience in an academic or industry setting, and sound knowledge and hands-on experience in molecular and cell biology, along with a strong track record in developing and working across various assay platforms. You will need to be able to plan, organise and problem-solve effectively, and to communicate clearly with a wide range of stakeholders.

Appointment as Research Fellow is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD or having equivalent research experience in an academic or industry setting; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be as Research Assistant (salary £39,148 - £41,833 per annum) with appointment as Research Fellow being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
