About the role
Applications are invited for a full-time Research Fellow position to work with Professor Hao Ni on the project entitled “High order mathematical and computational infrastructure for streamed data that enhance contemporary generative and large language models” (DataSig II).
The responsibilities of the post will include carrying out vigorous, high-level research, submitting publications regularly in referred journals, participating in local seminars and in national and international conferences.
This post is available from 1st October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary will be UCL Grade 7 point 31 which is £45,103 annum inclusive of London Allowance.
This post is funded for 24 months the first instance due to funding restrictions.
About you
Candidates should either have a PhD or equivalent qualification in Mathematics, or a field related to the Programme or should be finalising their PhD or waiting for their viva date.
Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent on award and confirmation of a PhD (or equivalent). If this is not the case, the initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B, point 25 (salary £38,607 per annum inclusive of London allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
The successful candidate is expected to have some expertise and research experience in their willingness and ability to work effectively with a team of researchers and across disciplines to contribute towards the Programme’s aims and objectives. Have a high-level innovative and analytical capability tied to the Programme objectives; especially to identify, develop and apply concepts, techniques and methods in these contexts. Have Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings. The ability to exercise initiative and judgement in carrying out research tasks, to organise your own work independently and prioritise work in response to deadlines and have clear evidence of outstanding promise and originality in research linked to the role and Programme, with a good publication record, commensurate with career stage
An outstanding candidate will have the ability to assess resource requirements and deploy them effectively, have willingness and ability to report and present work to a wider community, bring diversity of approach to the Programme and have Research experience relevant to the Programme -related areas, including but not limited to generative models/sequential ML models, Large Language Models (LLMs), agents and rough path theory.
