- THE ROLE -
The successful candidate will work on an ambitious project focused on co-occurring mutations in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) led by Dr Kyle Matchett (School of Medicine, Ulster University). The project will involve bioinformatics analysis of large patient cohorts, modelling of co-mutations by CRISPR-Cas9 and collaborative translational studies with Dr Linde Miles (Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, USA). As part of the project, the successful candidate will spend a period of time (~two months) at the Miles Lab in Cincinnati, USA.
The successful candidate will become an integral member of a dynamic and collaborative research group that values research excellence, translational impact, and a vibrant research culture. Our group provides a supportive research environment where research innovation and independent scientific thinking are strongly encouraged. Moreover, it is expected that the successful candidate will have strategic plans to apply for independent fellowships during/on the completion of this project, which will be actively supported.
The post is based at the Personalised Medicine Centre (PMC), School of Medicine, Altnagelvin Area Hospital, Derry~Londonderry (Matchett Lab) and will require travel and collaborative work at the Miles Lab in Cincinnati, USA. The post is funded by The Little Princess Trust.
- ABOUT YOU -
- Bachelor’s Degree (2:1 at minimum) or equivalent Level 6 qualification in molecular biology, genetics, biomedical sciences or a related subject.
- PhD (or viva passed) in molecular biology, genetics, cancer research or a related subject.
- Substantial relevant experience (including PhD experience) in molecular biology and cancer research.
- Experience in leukaemia research.
- Experience in at least two of the following methods: 1. Cell culture of cancer cells 2. Drug treatments of cultured cells 3. Single cell sequencing.
