About the role

This teaching position is based in UCL SpaceTimeLab, a leading research centre in Spatiotemporal AI within the Geomatics Section of CEGE. The appointment will primarily be responsible for teaching on the geomatics MSc courses: Spatio-Temporal Data Mining and Big Data Analytics, launched in 2014 and still growing and developing in reputation; and Geospatial Sciences (GIS & Computing, BIM, Hydrographic Surveying), restructured from our long-established world-leading MSc offerings in Surveying and GIS. They will contribute to teaching on existing modules, including Geospatial Programming, Machine Learning for Data Science and Spatio-Temporal Analysis and Data Mining. They will also contribute to the development of new teaching materials, including lectures, computing resources and assessments in GeoAI and associated fields. The appointment will also be expected to contribute the supervision and tutoring of undergraduate, taught graduate and research graduate students.

This is a post on the Teaching/Education track and is not an academic research track post.

The post holder will:

  • Coordinate and deliver two taught graduate modules in Geospatial Programming and Machine Learning for Data Science.
  • Exercise appropriate autonomy in delivering teaching responsibilities, including updating existing teaching materials and contributing to developing new content such as lectures and computer-based practicals, under the guidance of senior academic staff.
  • Participate in developing, administering, and marking exams and other assessments.
  • Participate in the administration of the department’s programmes of study and other activities as needed.
  • Demonstrate ongoing commitment to academic excellence; conduct of teaching, enabling and other forms of knowledge transfer, at the highest levels of international achievement.

About you

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A PhD (completed or in progress) in Geographic Information Science, Computer Science, Engineering or other area related to GeoAI
  • Working knowledge of and experience in core machine learning algorithms and specific applications in GeoAI
  • In-depth knowledge of spatial/GIS programming, preferably in Python
  • A proven track record of application of machine learning to real-world problems
  • Relevant teaching experience in Higher Education in a relevant field such as Geographic Information Science, Computer Science, Engineering or other area related to GeoAI
