Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be expected to support all SPECS students within the school, working closely with school academic staff. This will include responding to student enquiries and advising students on their academic progress and other aspects of student life such as time management, navigating systems and regulations within the university and seeking support from tutors.
The post will require you to report on student progress from various sources and analyse data to inform the school on student progression and retention. You will work flexibly as part of the Academic Skills Support Unit to support new projects or activity as necessary. You will provide administrative support, ensuring that student records are confidential and accurate, appropriately recorded and compliant with regulatory requirements. You will support new students at the University by advising on all relevant aspects of student life and will coordinate and organise student social activities or events.
In addition, you will prepare and present materials related to your role within departmental, school and external stakeholder meetings, and complete general academic administration where needed.
Skills and experience required
You will be expected to have suitable knowledge of and sensitivity to the complex areas of student support and relevant experience providing administration within an HEI or similar context. You will have the ability to maintain and develop related knowledge and skills as required for the position. You should have excellent planning, organisational and time management skills. You will need excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Being proficient in English Language is essential and you will possess good IT skills including proficiency with MSOffice (word/excel) and video-calling platforms such as zoom and MS Teams.
In addition, you will have the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, deal with conflicting demands and priorities with high level attention to detail and handle sensitive material with strict confidentiality. You will be flexible and adaptable to workload and student requirements, have a passion for providing excellent student experience and be committed in your approach to issues related to equality and diversity.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of a degree, or equivalent in a relevant subject area or relevant proven experience.
