About us
The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) at UCL was established by Professor Sir Ambrose Fleming, inventor of the thermionic valve and hence the founder of the discipline of electronics, in 1885 as the first department of electrical technology in England. That same pioneering tradition of innovation and excellence continues to underpin our work. We push in new directions across research, education and entrepreneurship, building on our long-established links with industry and benefitting from our loyal and supportive alumni community.
About the role
The Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering at UCL is looking to appoint up to four full-time academic positions at either Lecturer (Grade 8: £54,931 - £64,644 per annum) or Associate Professor (Grade 9: £68,284 - £76,244 per annum) level, depending on experience. It is anticipated that the successful candidates will take up the positions during the 2025-26 academic year, from 5th January 2026. We are specifically seeking early-career and established researchers to significantly strengthen the department’s teaching and research capacity in the following areas:
The successful candidates will be expected to strengthen the research portfolio of the theme as well as contributing to the teaching of the department at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
About you
Applicants should have a PhD in electronic engineering, computer science or equivalent qualifications and/or significant industrial experience. We are seeking individuals with a track record of research within an appropriate field, including publications in high-quality peer reviewed journals. Candidates must have the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with students, academics and professional services staff at all levels. A higher education teaching qualification is desirable.
Appointment at Lecturer or Associate Professor level will be determined by depth of experience and track record. For Grade 9, you will show sustained success in securing funding (or otherwise ensuring research activity is sustainable) over a significant period. You will have experience of delivering high-quality teaching in a university environment. You will have an established international reputation, evidenced by esteem indicators, in a field that matches or enhances existing activities within the department.
