About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and highly organised School Business Coordinator to provide senior-level operational and executive support within one of our Schools in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Working closely with the Head of School and School Strategic Manager, you will ensure smooth day-to-day operations, effective governance, and delivery of local and Faculty-wide initiatives.
As the central point of contact for the School Leadership Team, you will manage diaries, correspondence, and committee business while also coordinating projects such as space planning and sustainability initiatives. You will play a key role in business continuity requirements, and in supporting high-level events, strategic communications, and external stakeholder engagement.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, balancing operational oversight with executive support, and contributing to the effective running of a large and dynamic academic School.
About You
You will have significant experience providing senior administrative or operational support in a complex organisation, ideally in higher education. With excellent organisational skills, sound judgement, and discretion, you can manage competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.
A commitment to excellent customer service is essential. You will be approachable, professional, and responsive, ensuring a high-quality experience for staff, students, and external partners. Confident working with senior stakeholders, you will also have strong IT skills, committee servicing experience, and the ability to support projects and compliance activities.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The School of Physical and Chemical Sciences provides a supportive and friendly environment with a multi-disciplinary approach to teaching and research. We are a large and dynamic school with strong links with industry, offering students a stimulating and supportive learning experience.

Benefits
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities.
Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £40,015 - £46,618 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
