LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university
Salary from £43,277 to £51,714 per annum inclusive with potential to progress to £55,497 pa inclusive of London allowance
The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning and research in the world. Founded in 1895, LSE counts 18 Nobel prize winners among its alumni and staff. In April 2025, we announced the appointment of the General Counsel, Elizabeth Messud who will be providing strategic legal services and support to the President and Vice Chancellor, as well as all other relevant stakeholders including the SMC and other Committees. She also leads and has overall responsibility of the Secretary’s Division.
The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for the General Counsel’s portfolio and will be responsible for minute taking and organising committee meetings. In addition, as part of the wider team of the Secretariat they will aid with any general enquiries and visitors who may approach the Secretariat.
This portfolio encompasses a wide and crucial strategic legal, governance, compliance and risk management for LSE. The successful candidate will have the ability to involve themselves with all aspects of the required interactions and understand the priorities which the General Counsel oversees.
Candidates should have experience working in a legal function supporting a General Counsel at Executive level. The role also involves dealing with sensitive and confidential information and secretarial and/or administrative experience at a senior level with a particular focus on complex diary management. They should have the ability to work on a range of tasks simultaneously, to manage competing priorities and to organise own workload.
We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and excellent training and development opportunities.
