Senior Research Fellow

This post is funded by the Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund (NIKRF) as part of recent investment to build local capacity and enhance sustainability of kidney research. The post offers the successful applicant an opportunity to develop and manage an area of kidney research supported by a multidisciplinary collaborative team.

Kidney disease is an increasingly prevalent chronic condition and represents a major public health concern worldwide. NIKRF has partnered with the Queen’s Foundation to support a non-clinical fellow in kidney disease research, to help guide the development of improved treatments and preventive measures. Applicants will be invited to submit a CV, and letter of application outlining how their experience makes them a competitive applicant for this post.

This post will include liaising with collaborators, collating existing data, coordinating meetings and workshops, generating novel data, bioinformatic analysis of new or existing data, integrating datasets, preparing regular summary reports, and leading roles in writing academic outputs, grant applications and research dissemination.

Ongoing renal research in the Centre for Public Health includes:

• Improving diagnosis of kidney disease.
• Molecular, metabolomic, and proteomic determinants of rare, chronic and diabetic kidney disease, including applying novel multiomic and artificial intelligence approaches.
• Co-morbidities with kidney disease and exploring kidney transplant outcomes, including frailty, diabetes, cancer, and survival.
• Clinical trials, burden and health economic appraisals of kidney disease.
• Vascular access provision for haemodialysis patients.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

• First or Upper Second Class Honours Degree.
• Hold a PhD in relevant discipline.
• Significant recent and relevant post-doctoral research experience and skills
• Experience working with kidney health or social care research data or other fields relevant to the post.
• Experience of project management, delivering research outcomes, and proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment as part of a research team.
• A high academic standing with a growing reputation in research within subject specialism.
• A sustained publication record in peer reviewed/refereed journals or invited presentations.

This post is for 36 months. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
