Faculty/Directorate

The Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities and its School of Humanities and Performing Arts are home to innovative and sector-leading courses, geared towards the practical application of knowledge, and informed by partnerships with the creative and cultural industries. The School is a research-intensive division of DMU, with respected scholars and practice-based researchers within the Institutes of Humanities and Political Studies, and Arts, Design and Performance. It is also home to the Centre for English Language Learning. The Cultural Management cluster focuses on management of festivals, arts, tourism, hospitality and sport, within which our Arts and Festivals Management programme is ranked 2nd in the Guardian 2025 league table for Hospitality, Events and Tourism and our FIFA Master, our MA in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport is ranked as the best sports business postgraduate programme in Europe by Sport Business postgraduate rankings. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our distinctive team and help grow our burgeoning reputation in the fields of Sport, Events and Tourism.

The School is delivering its courses in block mode, enabling a dual focus on concentrated instruction and dedicated time for research.

Main duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for leading the MSc in Sport Management, leading relevant modules, as well as teaching and supervision of students on undergraduate and postgraduate levels primarily in sport and secondarily in the subject areas of events and tourism. Your main area of expertise, and potentially also industry experience, will lie in sport management and studies and you will also have either an interest in developing, or, have existing expertise in the related fields of events and tourism studies. You will also have experience of teaching, module leadership, and programme leadership, in a higher education setting. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to a range of taught aspects and fieldtrips offered as a part of sport, events and tourism programmes at DMU.

You will be educated to doctoral level (or nearing completion) in either sport management or a closely related field of studies or discipline and will also have previous experience of teaching, module leadership, and programme leadership, in a relevant subject area in the higher education setting. Your interests, expertise and/or industry experience will inform your teaching on a range of thematic areas such as Sport Events and Operations; Events Leadership; Sports Ecosystems; Sport Ecosystem; Marketing in Sport, Events and Tourism and Consultancy. You will also be either already active in, or willing to develop, relevant research, scholarship, knowledge exchange and/or consultancy activity and keen to contribute to future curriculum developments in these subject areas.
