About the Role
The School Strategic Manager position sits within the School of Business and Management, part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS). Reporting to the Faculty Director of Operations, the role serves as the key strategic professional services lead supporting the Head of School.
The HSS Faculty is known for its research excellence and commitment to innovation, diversity, and public engagement. It includes over 12,000 students and 500 academic staff across two campuses. Several disciplines—such as Law, History, Drama, English, Geography, and Linguistics—are globally ranked, and the Faculty’s reputation is further strengthened by its Centres and Institutes, including the Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences and the Mile End Institute.
About You
You will act on behalf of the Head of School when needed, with delegated authority to make complex decisions. Be leading the implementation of strategies across research, education, public engagement, partnerships, and finance.
You will collaborate with senior colleagues and external partners (e.g., NHS in Medicine and Dentistry) to influence policy and institutional initiatives. Using data-driven approaches to support performance, innovation, and continuous improvement.
You will manage change, planning, and policy development across the school and wider University whilst representing the School in University Committees and fostering strong stakeholder relationships.

The School Strategic Manager is a senior leader within the Faculty’s Professional Services team, working closely with the Head of School and reporting to the Faculty Director of Operations. The role is pivotal in shaping the School’s strategic and operational direction, driving initiatives that align with Faculty and University-wide goals.
