Glasstone Research Fellowship in Science

University of Oxford - Molecular Plants Biology Section of the Department of Biology

Location: Oxford
Salary: £39,424 to £47,779 Grade 7
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 31st October 2025
Closes: 15th November 2025
Job Ref: 183047
The Molecular Plants Biology Section of the Department of Biology is pleased to invite applications for the Glasstone Fellowship in Plant Sciences. This prestigious post is a three-year postdoctoral fellowship and is supported by the Glasstone Bequest, which was set up to encourage scientists at an early stage of their career to follow their research interests at Oxford, one of the world’s leading science universities. Preference will be given to candidates who are at an early stage in their research career and who have not already held an independent fellowship.

The Fellow will receive active mentoring from members of the Department but will be encouraged and expected to set an independent research agenda in one or more of the research areas of the Department, broadly construed. To that end, they will have access to substantial travel and research funds and participate fully in the Department’s vibrant programme of visitors and seminars. An affiliation with Magdalen College is under discussion.

Applications are especially welcome from women and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts at Oxford.

Candidates must have completed a doctorate (i.e. normally within the past 3 years) in Plant Science or a closely related discipline by the start of the fellowship on 1st of October 2026. If candidates require a visa, they will need to obtain the visa up to 3 months beforehand in order to obtain the visa in time.

Applications must be made online. Candidates will be asked to complete an Application Form, upload a CV and a two-page statement of their research plans, and are encouraged, where appropriate, to identify members of the Department with overlapping research interests. Candidates must also arrange for three supporting reference letters to be sent by email to recruitment@biology.ox.ac.uk

Applications without the application form, CV and maximum two-page research statement along with three supporting references will not be considered. The name of the referees should also be provided on the Application Form. Information about Plant Sciences at Oxford can be found at https://www.biology.ox.ac.uk or by contacting the head of the Molecular Plant Sciences Section (lars.ostergaard@biology.ox.ac.uk).
All application materials including reference letters must be received by noon on Monday 15th December 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a remote interview, expected to take place mid-January 2026. The successful candidate will be notified by email by the end of January 2026.
