Join our friendly and dynamic finance team as a Purchasing and Admin Assistant, managing the department’s day-to-day purchase-to-pay operations and supporting wider administrative functions.
 
We are seeking to appoint a Purchasing and Admin Assistant to join our department. In this varied and rewarding position, you will take ownership of the purchase-to-pay cycle, ensuring that all financial transactions are processed accurately, efficiently, and in line with university policies and external regulations. You will be a key point of contact for colleagues across the department, offering advice, support, and guidance on financial processes helping to foster a “right first time” culture.  Beyond financial processing, you will contribute to continuous improvement, streamline processes, and ensure our financial procedures are robust and effective. Around 25% of your time will also be spent supporting general administrative duties, helping the department run smoothly and efficiently.
 
This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Department for up to 12 months in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU.
 
About you
 
You will be educated to GCSE standard or equivalent and have experience of working in a relevant financial administration role. You will be competent in the use of computerised financial systems and Microsoft packages, in particular MS Excel. Excellent time management and the demonstrable ability to prioritise and manage a diverse workload is essential, as well as having the ability to produce a consistently high standard of work with good attention to detail. You will have experience of producing and interpreting financial reports and applying financial policies to routine situations. Experience of using Oracle Financials would be advantageous.
