From January 2026 (Fixed-term, one year)

Lady Margaret Hall (LMH) invites applications for a fixed-term Stipendiary Lectureship in Law, offered from 2 January 2026 to 31 December 2026. The post is to provide tutorial teaching in Jurisprudence and Criminal Law, and to deliver teaching to Visiting Students on bespoke law courses. The College may also consider appointing two part-time (6-hour) lecturers, and applicants are encouraged to indicate their availability and preferred teaching areas.

This is a teaching-focused post, ideally suited to early-career academics seeking to develop their experience within Oxford’s collegiate system. The successful candidate(s) will undertake twelve hours of tutorial teaching per week, averaged over the three 8-week terms of the academic year.

Teaching responsibilities include:

  • Jurisprudence and Criminal Law for LMH undergraduates
  • Civil Rights, Law and Liberty, Theory of Criminal Law, and Legal Philosophy for Visiting Students

Additional duties include acting as a Personal Tutor, setting and marking College exams (collections), supporting law admissions in December 2025, and contributing to outreach, Open Days, and student enrichment events within the LMH Law School. The Lecturer will work closely with the College’s Law Fellows and the Senior Tutor.

The successful candidate will join a strong and friendly Law team. LMH has five Fellows in Law and a thriving community of around 28 undergraduates and several graduate law students, including those on the BCL, MJur, MSc and DPhil programmes. The College places high value on academic excellence, inclusive education, and close tutorial support.

LMH is a vibrant and welcoming college of around 700 students and 200 staff, known for its pioneering history in widening participation and its commitment to equality and inclusion. It is the only Oxbridge college to hold the Gold Award from Investors in People. The College provides excellent academic and pastoral support, with an outstanding library and wellbeing provision.

The salary will be £33,810–£37,338 per annum (2025/26 rates) for a 12-hour post, pro rata for part-time. The post is pensionable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). Benefits include weekday lunch and one dinner per week during term, a research allowance (£366 p.a.), Senior Common Room membership, and access to College facilities and staff benefits.

Applicants should hold (or be near completion of) a higher degree in Law, demonstrate excellent tutorial teaching ability, and show a strong commitment to supporting high-achieving undergraduates. The ability to teach Jurisprudence and Criminal Law is essential.

To apply, please visit our careers website. Applications must be submitted via the online system by noon on Friday 21 November 2025.
Interviews are expected to take place at LMH on Thursday 4 December 2025.
