The University of Sheffield’s Faculty of Engineering seeks an experienced Research Associate in Electrical Engineering, control systems, or a related subject area to contribute to a significant research endeavour promoting low-carbon household heating solutions. This project, backed by the South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre and the Grantham Institute, strives to analyse the performance of current and emerging heating technologies in real-world residential environments.
Your role will involve applied experimental work, evaluating system-level performance, interoperability, and user impacts. You will help assess how these technologies interact in practice and identify both the opportunities and barriers they present. This work is key to enabling informed decisions by homeowners, local authorities, and policymakers—supporting a just and effective energy transition without the need for extensive grid upgrades.
