The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics (MMLL) at the University of Cambridge, invites applications for the position of Deputy Faculty Manager. This pivotal full-time role, commencing January 2026, requires an enthusiastic, ambitious, and highly motivated professional to lead the dedicated administrative team responsible for our comprehensive undergraduate programmes.

The Faculty is a complex institution, comprising five Language Sections and the Department of Theoretical & Applied Linguistics. We support nearly 1,000 students (including approximately 750 undergraduates) and a community of 140 academic, research, and professional staff.

The Role and Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will serve as the primary professional services authority for undergraduate policy and procedure. This role necessitates exceptional organisational acumen, highly developed communication skills, and a demonstrable commitment to staff support and development.

We seek an individual with significant experience in Higher Education administration, preferably within a teaching-focused environment. The post-holder will be instrumental in collaborating with colleagues across the University to develop and enhance policy, refine procedures, and ensure the efficient management of day-to-day operations. A core responsibility involves improving administrative systems and processes alongside the team.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Leadership and Management: Direct the operational activities and professional development of a team of six professional services staff.
  •  Policy Formulation: Act as the lead professional services expert in the development of administrative policy, process, and procedure for the undergraduate programme.
  •  Programme Support: Provide critical administrative support to academic staff, ensuring the effective delivery of the undergraduate curriculum.
  •  Assessment Coordination: Oversee and coordinate the complex assessment process in partnership with colleagues in and outside of the Faculty.
  •  Governance: Serve as Committee Secretary to key Faculty decision-making bodies.
  •  Deputisation: Manage key projects and deputise for the Business and Operations Manager as required.
