Salary: Standard Grade 6: Salary in range £35,681 - £41,636 per annum (pro rata). This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year (pro rata). 

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant in mass spectrometry-based proteomics to join the Clinical Research Group led by Professor Roman Fischer at Centre for Medicines Discover Nuffield Department of Medicine. 

The group focuses on single-cell, spatial, and high-throughput clinical proteomics with applications in patients’ tissue and blood samples across multiple pathologies. This position supports Go-PRECISE, a major collaborative project funded by GSK and the Department of Oncology, which aims to characterise the early stages of diseases such as ovarian and lung cancer to support the development of cancer vaccines. You will play an active role in the acquisition and analysis of spatial and single-cell proteomic data from patient biopsies, and in supporting immunopeptidomics workflows for vaccine discovery. 

You will be responsible for preparing and processing biological samples for mass spectrometry, operating high-end MS instrumentation, and performing data analysis using proteomics software and statistical tools. You will participate in the daily operation and maintenance of MS and liquid-handling equipment, monitor project progress and sample tracking, and contribute to method development for spatial and high-throughput proteomics. Accurate record keeping, adherence to quality control standards, and the ability to analyse and present data clearly will be key aspects of your work. You will also supervise mass spectrometry and liquid handling equipment. 

It is essential that you hold a degree on a life-science related subject together with relevant experience in wet lab work/biochemistry. You should have a careful, methodical approach to experimental work, strong organisational skills, and excellent attention to detail. The ability to communicate effectively, work well as part of a team, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously is essential. Prior experience in proteomics sample preparation and instrument control is highly desirable.
