Job description:
The Role
Join our team at Newcastle University, the UK's leading centre for clinical trials in autoimmune thyroid disease.
The position is for an ambitious clinician who aims to consolidate their clinical training with a one year period of substantive research experience. You will be responsible for day to day clinical activities for a clinical trial investigating immunotherapeutic treatment for Hashimoto's thyroiditis which has been funded by MRC (UKRI). Training to perform necessary laboratory research techniques of relevance to the study will be given. The post will be based at the Clinical Research Facility and Endocrine Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, and Newcastle University Translational and Clinical Research Institute (Centre for Life site). The post would suit someone seeking a career in Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Immunology or Haematology.
You will be expected to become an integral part of the multidisciplinary endocrine team and attend specialist NHS endocrinology clinics. You will provide an interface between clinical and laboratory studies and local and regional clinicians to aid the conduct of high-quality and safe clinical trials. You will recruit, treat and assess patient responses, and analyse and interpret the trial data with statistical support.
This is a fixed-term post for one year, to cover maternity leave.
You will work between the Newcastle NIHR Clinical Research Facility on the RVI site and Newcastle University's laboratories at the International Centre for Life.
No out of hours working is expected.
