Introduction

Birmingham City University (BCU) is seeking a highly organised and analytical individual to lead our Product team within the wider Recruitment Operations and Insight function. 

Role information

As the Product Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing the University’s portfolio review and management activities, as well as coordinating activity related to the wider product offer. This will include managing and monitoring existing course provision, reviewing proposed new provision, informing fee setting and contributing to our scholarship strategy.

You will work closely with colleagues across Marketing, Recruitment and Communications and our academic Schools to ensure shared understanding of portfolio processes, informed decision-making and timely implementation of course changes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the university's portfolio review processes
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to stakeholders on course portfolio management
  • Assess the viability of existing and new course provision
  • Support the smooth operation of the University’s course approval governance groups
  • Develop and maintain processes for keeping accurate records of current courses, entry requirements, fees and scholarships, leading on the cascade of any updates to relevant colleagues
  • Inform the university's fee-setting processes
  • Contribute to the institutional scholarship strategy
  • Develop close working relationships with key stakeholders in academic units and professional service departments to ensure a joined-up approach to portfolio, fees and scholarships.

Experience

  • Experience in product or course portfolio management, ideally in higher education or a related field.
  • Strong skills in data analysis and market research to inform decision-making.
  • Experience of managing course or curriculum review processes, including governance and approval procedures.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework for higher education course provision and approval processes.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with academic staff, professional services, and external stakeholders.
  • Skills in project management, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to support report writing and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to use market insight and institutional data to drive strategic decisions and recommendations

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
