Job Description:
Main duties and responsibilities
De Montfort University is a forward thinking institution driven by innovation, inclusion, and a deep commitment to delivering outstanding digital services. Since the launch of our Digital Transformation Strategy in 2022, we’ve implemented major infrastructure upgrades, embedded user centred design practices, and laid the foundations for a modern, agile university. This transformation is ongoing, and with so much still to achieve, it’s a particularly exciting time to join us.
The Directorate
The Digital and Technology Directorate plays a central role in reshaping how the university delivers digital value. We are modernising our services through cloud adoption, reduction of technical debt, and the implementation of a product operating model, still novel in higher education but increasingly vital to public sector innovation. Our approach combines agile delivery with operational excellence, ensuring services are both resilient and user-focused. From AI and automation to endpoint management and cyber security, the Directorate is focused on creating streamlined, future-ready services that support academic and professional excellence across DMU.
The Role
Location: On campus, 5 days per week
Previous applicants need not reapply.
We are seeking an experienced and proactive End User Computing Team Leader to ensure the smooth operation and continual enhancement of our staff desktop environment, supporting over 3,000 endpoints across the university. This is a hands on leadership role within the End User Computing team, where your technical expertise and managerial skills will directly shape the digital experience of colleagues.
You will take ownership of the full lifecycle of endpoint hardware and software, including desktop, print, and mobile services, while maintaining secure, consistent, and robust configurations across all platforms. Key responsibilities include:
As a member of the Digital and Technology Directorate, you will lead technical delivery, mentor and develop your team, and provide expert guidance to improve service performance and efficiency. Working closely with stakeholders and support services, you will play a vital role in enhancing digital productivity and ensuring seamless day to day operations across campus.
The Ideal Candidate
You’ll bring a solid background in managing enterprise endpoint environments, with demonstrable experience leading technical teams in complex IT settings. Your expertise will include Windows and macOS platforms, mobile device management (iOS and Android), print systems, and asset lifecycle management. You’ll be confident deploying software, building system images, and maintaining endpoint security, while keeping a keen eye on compliance and resilience. Strong analytical skills, excellent troubleshooting ability, and a collaborative working style will be essential to success in this role.
We’re looking for a team leader who can communicate complex technical information clearly, support colleagues at all levels, and foster a culture of learning, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Experience with ITIL processes, change management, and working in large scale or public sector environments is highly desirable. You’ll be passionate about digital service excellence, proactive in identifying solutions, and committed to helping your team and the university achieve their full potential.
