The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology is seeking an experienced and motivated Laboratory Manager (Chemical Laboratories) to lead the management and safe operation of its chemical-using laboratories.
Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager, you will manage a small team of technicians, ensuring that laboratory facilities and equipment are well maintained, compliant, and effectively support the Department's world-class research and teaching activities. You will take responsibility for laboratory operations, chemical waste management, reticulated gas systems and maintenance of specialist instruments.
Acting as support to the Departmental Safety Officer, you will provide expert chemical safety advice, oversee risk assessments and training, and lead the Chemical Safety Advisory Group. You will also contribute to departmental systems and improvement projects, support equipment procurement, and assist in the delivery of undergraduate teaching laboratories.
You will hold a degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant scientific discipline and have substantial experience managing and supporting research laboratories in a university or industrial setting. Strong technical knowledge, excellent organisational and communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards are essential. A postgraduate qualification or relevant health and safety certification would be advantageous.
