The ultimate goal is to provide society with a safer and more resilient, sustainable and equitable built environment.

About the role

RE-EnForCe (Resilience Enhancement through Multi-Hazard Impact Analysis of Earthquake and Flood-Affected Urban Contexts) develops a harmonised multi-hazard risk and recovery framework and open-source tools to quantify and manage combined earthquake and flood impacts on urban buildings, transport networks and community recovery.

The Research Fellow will lead development and deployment of computational models and open‑source tools that quantify combined earthquake and flood impacts on buildings and transport networks, and translate those outputs into actionable resilience metrics for urban recovery planning. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the postholder will design probabilistic simulation workflows, implement reproducible code and datasets, calibrate models at Italian demonstration sites, and engage stakeholders to ensure practical uptake. Responsibilities include producing peer‑reviewed publications, contributing to project deliverables, and supporting consortium coordination and workshops, with occasional travel to partner institutions.

The position is available from 12 January 2026. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension, subject to funding availability. The successful applicant will be subject to the usual UCL probationary procedures.
