We are seeking to recruit a Digital Library Assistant to join the Digital Library team.

The Digital Library team delivers two core services:

  • The Digital Library, a service that creates, manages, preserves, and provides online access to a wide range of digitised materials from the Library’s collections on our flagship platforms, LSE Digital Library http://digital.library.lse.ac.uk, and Charles Booth’s London https://booth.lse.ac.uk/.
  • Web editorship services for the Library, involving updating and improving the Library’s website to better reflect the Library’s services and to describe its collections.

The team also provides advice on a range of technical and technological matters to colleagues inside and outside the Library, on subjects including: collection digitisation; digital preservation; web development and use of web technologies; and reuse of digital collections for research.

The role

The Digital Library Assistant works with colleagues across the Library to preserve, manage and make available online the Library’s digital collections. The role supports the full digitisation project lifecycle, from assessing and preparing physical items and enhancing metadata, to processing digital assets for ingest into our preservation systems and making them available on the LSE Digital Library.

The main duties and responsibilities of the post focus on the description and management of the Library’s extensive and varied digital collections. The post-holder will work with a range of colleagues, including their line-manager the Digital Assets Manager as well as colleagues in other teams, to assist with this key strategic goal for the Library.

The role holder

Candidates should have a high level of digital literacy, good all-round IT skills, experience working with digital files and their metadata (e.g. creating or enhancing metadata; converting file formats; using software tools to transform digitised materials), as well as the ability to maintain high standards in the management of both physical and digital collections. They will also have experience of contributing to a team and an ability to communicate well with a wide range of stakeholders.

We welcome applications from candidates with a background in archives, digital assets management, as well as library and information professionals interested in working with digital collections.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities. Regular on campus working will be required to fulfil the duties of the role.

For further information about the post, please see the how to apply document, job description and the person specification.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 11th January 2026 (23.59 UK time). Regrettably, we are unable to accept any late applications.

We plan to hold interviews on the LSE campus in the week beginning 26th January 2026.
