The Nuffield Department of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join the Lang Group within the newly established Oxford-GSK Institute for Molecular & Computational Medicine (IMCM). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to pioneering work investigating how glial-neuronal interactions influence neurodegeneration, with the aim of identifying new therapeutic strategies for Parkinson’s disease. Working as part of a collaborative and multidisciplinary team, you will support research funded by Parkinson’s UK & Rosetrees Trust, using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived dopamine neurons and astrocytes to explore novel NRF2-targeting therapeutics in neurodegenerative disease models. 

In this hands-on and scientifically diverse role, you will culture and phenotype iPSC-derived dopamine neurons and astrocytes and perform a range of cellular and molecular assays including RT-PCR, immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry, and high-resolution imaging. You will contribute to single-cell RNA-sequencing workflows, small-molecule treatment optimisation, data preparation for reports and publications, and collaborative project work. You will also support laboratory operations, including stock management and ordering, and participate in lab meetings, scientific discussions, and engagement activities. 

It is essential that you will hold at minimum an MSc in Neuroscience, Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics/Genomics or a related area, and have experience working with neurodegenerative disease models such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. Experience with iPSC-derived neuronal cell culture, sterile technique, and core molecular biology methods is essential. You will be a proactive and enthusiastic researcher, able to interpret data, think creatively, and collaborate effectively across a research team. Strong communication skills, including the ability to present results at meetings, are also required. Experience with iPSC-derived glia, RNA-sequencing, or a developing publication record would be an advantage.
