Department/Location: Department of Psychology, Central Cambridge
The Department of Psychology at the University of Cambridge is dedicated to providing world-class research and teaching in psychology and cognate disciplines. Our research is characterised by its multidisciplinary and collaborative approach. In the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Cambridge was placed first in the world for Psychology, and in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, 93% of Cambridge's submissions in the Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience Unit of Assessment were rated as 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'. The Department's research has a major impact on the science of psychology and has been translated into many practical applications.
This post is part of Generation New Era, a new ESRC-funded UK-wide birth cohort study aiming to follow the lives of 30,000 children born in 2026, and their families. The first sweep of data collection will take place when the child is 9-10 months old, beginning in late 2026, capturing information about their economic and social environments, and their health, wellbeing and development. A nationally representative sample will be drawn from records of births, with targeted boosts to ensure diverse representation across ethnic groups and socioeconomic backgrounds in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Generation New Era is led by the Centre for Longitudinal Studies (CLS) at UCL in partnership with researchers at the University of Cambridge, Swansea University, and other institutions across the UK. The study is co-directed by Professor Alissa Goodman (UCL), Professor Lisa Calderwood (UCL), and Professor Pasco Fearon (University of Cambridge), with country leads in Wales (Professor Lucy Griffiths, Swansea University), Northern Ireland (Dr Orla McBride, Ulster University), and Scotland (Professor Rebecca Reynolds, University of Edinburgh).
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 5 years in the first instance.
