The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.
We have a bold vision of what we want to achieve – shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.
Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to make a real difference.
The role
We are seeking to appoint a pro-active and well-organised individual to provide professional administrative support to the Surrey Space Institute (SSI). The role will support the Leadership Team (Director, Co-Directors and Head of Operations) with a wide range of activities, including diary management, organising board meetings and events, monitoring finances, compiling reports, and coordinating Institute activities such as training and seed funding calls.
The postholder will act as a first point of contact for the Institute, managing queries and facilitating the smooth flow of information across the University and with external partners. They will play a central role in ensuring SSI operates efficiently and effectively, supporting the Institute’s mission in research, innovation, education, and knowledge exchange.
About you
You will bring excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Ideally, you will have experience in providing high-quality administrative support in a Higher Education or research environment.
You will be comfortable working independently, handling sensitive information, and prioritising across multiple projects, while also contributing as part of a small, collaborative team. Strong IT skills and a flexible, “can-do” approach will be essential.
What we can offer
In addition to a competitive salary you will receive 25 days annual leave, with additional days for Bank Holidays and University closure days. We offer a generous pension, flexible working options including job share and blended home/campus working (dependent on work duties), access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.
At the University of Surrey, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equitable opportunities for all. We place great value on diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We are seeking to increase the diversity within our community and would particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities. We are proud to hold the Race Equality Charter, Athena Swan Charter, Disability Confident, Accessible and UK Workplace Equality Index.
