ABOUT US

Transforming lives through excellent education

London Met is an extraordinary institution. Equity and social inclusion have always been our driving principles, and it's what makes the University so unique. Our organisation is distinctive, both in its eclectic and diverse community of students and staff, and also for its historical role in serving some of London’s most deprived boroughs. Everything we do is underpinned by our philosophy that an individual should have the opportunity to transform their life through the power of education.

Equipping our students with the tools for their future is at the heart of our academic offering. We pride ourselves on providing our students with access to a wealth of opportunities and professions. Our graduates benefit personally, but also contribute their unique perspectives to society, culture, public service and the economy in all areas of London, the UK and around the world.

ABOUT THE POST

Join us as our External Communications Officer – help tell our story!

Are you a natural storyteller with a passion for shaping reputation and building connections? Do you thrive on creating compelling content and engaging with the media? If so, this is your chance to make a real impact.

As our External Communications Officer, you’ll play a key role in promoting and protecting the University’s reputation. You’ll produce high-quality, on-brand digital content and coordinate proactive media engagement that amplifies our achievements and showcases the incredible work happening across our community.

This is a new role, offering you the exciting opportunity to shape it from the ground up and make your mark on how we share our story with the world.

In this role you will:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with journalists and external stakeholders
  • Secure media coverage that highlights the University’s successes and impact
  • Ensure consistent, engaging messaging across all external channels
  • Work closely with our out-of-house PR agency and our in-house Social Media and Brand team to deliver integrated campaigns that raise our profile
  • Proactively identify news stories and opportunities by collaborating with colleagues across all departments.

You’ll sit within the Communications team, reporting directly to the Associate Director of Communications, and receive guidance and leadership to ensure everything aligns with University priorities. Your work will be fast-paced, creative, and deeply rewarding - helping us share stories that matter.

If you’re passionate about communications, media relations, and making a difference, we’d love to hear from you. Ready to tell our story? Apply today!

Interviews due to be held on 22 and 23 January 2026
