The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. We are seeking an Associate Professor to join the Planetary Health Group in the Department of Population Health. The post-holder will lead world-class research focused on interventions and policy actions to reduce the impacts of climate change and other environmental harms, and to identify and measure health co-benefits that can be achieved through pathways such as improved diets, increased active travel and switching to clean energy sources. They will provide academic leadership and enhance the standing of LSHTM in this field by securing grants from major research funders, publishing research of the highest quality and developing and delivering MSc programmes, as well as contributing to the management of LSHTM’s interdisciplinary Centre on Climate Change and Planetary Health. Existing projects the post holder will contribute to include the Pathfinder Initiative, the DESTINY project on evidence synthesis for planetary health and the Sustainable and Healthy Food Systems programme in Southern Africa.
The post-holder must have a doctoral degree in a relevant topic and expertise in assessing health impacts of climate change, and/or co-benefits of climate adaptation/mitigation actions. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term until 31 December 2028.
The post is funded by LSHTM and available from 01 January 2026.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 8 in the range £64,469-£73,994 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
