Assistant or Associate Professor Construction Management

New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE)

The future of the built environment depends on professionals who can navigate sustainability, modern construction methods, and sector-wide change. NMITE is creating an educational environment that supports this need through practical, interdisciplinary, and industry-connected learning.

If you share this commitment and want to help shape how future construction professionals learn and engage with industry challenges, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Who are we?

NMITE is a new and ambitious UK Higher Education provider, rethinking how engineering and technology education is delivered — with a mission to make a real difference to learners, industry, and the region. We welcomed our first graduates in 2025 and continue to grow our teaching, research, and civic engagement footprint.

Our flagship-built environment programme, the BSc (Hons) Construction Management, was launched in 2025 and is delivered from our state-of-the-art Skylon Campus. It is supported by our award-winning Centre for Advanced Timber Technology (CATT), which explores the transformative potential of timber and other sustainable materials. The programme is deliberately different: challenge-based, interdisciplinary, and designed around the needs of a rapidly changing sector.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a full-time, permanent Assistant or Associate Professor to contribute to the BSc (Hons) Construction Management programme. The role involves designing and delivering engaging learning experiences in Construction/Civil disciplines, with opportunities to shape modules and curriculum areas.

This position is ideal for a passionate educator with expertise in construction, sustainability, project management, or related fields, who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and connecting learning with industry practice. Applicants should have a relevant teaching qualification and/or sector experience and be willing to achieve Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy if they currently are not.

This is a pivotal role for someone eager to make a genuine impact on construction education, integrating sustainability, modern methods of construction (MMC), digital technologies, and circular economy principles into an innovative, interactive curriculum.

Responsibilities of the Role

Teach, Support, and Mentor Students

  • Deliver engaging teaching across construction-related modules such as project management, sustainability, retrofit technologies, MMC, and digital construction tools.
  • Support and mentor students to help them develop as future construction professionals.
  • Assess student work and contribute to the maintenance of high-quality learning outcomes.
  • Integrate industry practice and innovation into authentic challenge-based learning experiences.

Contribute to Programme and Curriculum Development

  • Assist in the development of interactive, practical learning experiences aligned with NMITE’s pedagogical approach.
  • Contribute to programme enhancement, accreditation preparation, and the embedding of sector-informed best practice.
  • Support outreach, CPD, and other activities that strengthen student engagement and NMITE’s reputation.

Engage with Industry and Professional Networks

  • Support collaboration with organisations across the construction and timber sectors.
  • Contribute to student recruitment, employer engagement, and co-created projects.
  • Stay informed of sector developments and innovations relevant to construction education.

Scholarship and Professional Development

  • Maintain professional standing and participate in personal CPD.
  • Share expertise and collaborate with colleagues to develop NMITE’s teaching, research, and sector impact.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Degree in construction, engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Passion for construction education and modern sustainable practices.
  • Experience teaching at HE or professional learning level, or evidence of high-quality mentoring.
  • Understanding of construction methods, sustainability, lifecycle approaches, and project management.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills aligned with NMITE values.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification (MSc or PhD) in construction or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIOB, ICE, RICS).
  • Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy
  • Experience with MMC, advanced timber technology, retrofit, digital construction, or BIM.
  • Knowledge of HE curriculum design and accreditation processes.
  • Experience of innovative pedagogies, challenge-based learning, or interdisciplinary teaching.

Our Values & Behaviours

NMITE aims to be a game changer. Its staff must be able to balance the need to create a well-run, self-critical institution where good governance and rigorous quality controls are in place, with the need to test (and push) the boundaries of existing practice to create new approaches to engineering education. The way we work together is crucial to this mission and our values and behaviours must reflect this.

Our values:

  • Grit and determination. We will be determined in everything we do, demonstrating the staying power needed to see things through.
  • Inclusive. We will respect every individual and every voice will be equally important. We will have a community of students learning with people from a variety of backgrounds and our staff team will be equally diverse.
  • Creative and learning. We will test the boundaries of existing practice and find new ways of doing things. We will always seek to justify the “new” in our title. We will try new things with humility, accepting mistakes and learning from them. We will always seek to learn from experiences by sharing openly what went well and what went wrong.
  • Honest. We will always be courteous and respectful but also honest and straightforward when dealing with each other. We will not hide from uncomfortable truths and staff will be provided with the information they seek to do their jobs and to be well informed about our progress.
  • Curious. We will encourage scrutiny from each other and welcome questions from any colleagues – whoever they are and whatever their role. Communication will always be assumed to be a two-way process. Colleagues should always ask for information they feel they need that is not being provided and we will always listen to each other.
  • Aligned. We will always work to advance the institution’s mission and its core aims, whatever our role. We will challenge work that does not align with our mission.

Our Benefits

NMITE offers a rewarding and dynamic environment with small-group teaching, a workload model that supports professional development, and a culture where your impact is visible. Academic staff have access to a personal development budget, promotion pathways, and a sabbatical scheme.

We offer a competitive salary of £41,738-£53,198 (Assistant Professor) or £54,834-£67,928 (Associate Professor), plus a benefits package including:

  • Pension scheme
