About the role
Do you love working with young people and are keen to support them by developing their skills and broadening their career insights?
Our Placements and Careers Coordinator role is vital to creating these opportunities for young people, supporting them by expanding the range of experiences available to them.
If you have experience supporting young people to access resources and development opportunities, and enabling them to achieve the best outcomes possible, then this role may be for you.
What you would be doing
You will be working with young people aged 14–19 who are engaged with our Maker Challenge programme within the Dangoor Reach Out Makerspace. The space is designed for school aged pupils in the local community, providing the opportunity to design, build and explore STEM and the arts through hands on approaches. The premise of the Makerspace programmes is not only to impart skills, but also to encourage young people to be independent, resilient learners and to support them to pursue all opportunities available to them. You will be essential in supporting these young people to develop their career and education prospects.
You will coordinate and deliver a range of opportunities, placements and skills development sessions, supported by the Makerspace team, the Outreach team, the White City Community Engagement team, key organisations in industry and funders to identify and develop potential opportunities for participants.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a candidate who has experience in delivering training and developing skills and guidance opportunities, and who has a good understanding of the different educational and skills pathways open to young people.
What we can offer you
Further information
This is a full-time, fixed term maternity cover for 12 months.
The Reach Out Makerspace is a state-of-the-art educational facility at our White City Campus. It is dedicated to hands-on activities aimed at engaging school children creatively in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects.
The workshop is run by a small and passionate team of people who are dedicated to helping young people innovate through hands-on learning experiences. The workshop has a variety of tools from 3D printers and laser cutters to sewing machines and woodworking tools. This unique immersive environment provides young people with a space to experiment, design and innovate.
This post will be responsible for overseeing activities delivered on evenings, weekends, and school holidays, so a flexibility in the approach to work is required.
