The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. The post-holder will be required to assist with the design, preparation and implementation of scientifically rigorous experiments using Musca sorbens flies. The post-holder will be required to assist with M. sorbens rearing, the design and implementation of experiments relating to M. sorbens oviposition and behaviour, and other research-related tasks as part of the research team. The post-holder is expected to assist with the analysis of data arising from the research and produce relevant scientific outputs, and contribute towards ongoing and future work arising following this post. The post requires an enthusiastic, punctual, flexible and hard-working individual with a good experimental mind and excellent attention to detail. Occasional overseas travel may be required in relation to the research project.
The successful candidate will have a science degree in entomology (or related discipline), knowledge of and experience in Musca sorbens handling and rearing, experience in conducting experiments with Musca sorbens and knowledge of and experience in vector control. The post is part-time 17.5 hours per week, 0.5 FTE and fixed term until 30 July 2026.
The post is funded by Sight Savers and is available from February 2026.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 5 in the range of £39,984 to £45,728 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
