About the Role
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a multidisciplinary research team based at the Centre for Public Health and Policy (CPHP), Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London. The postholder will contribute to the NIHR-funded project “Regulating physician dual practice in Mozambique and South Africa” (NIHR158137), which examines regulatory approaches to physicians’ simultaneous engagement in public and private practice in low- and middle-income countries.
Working under the supervision of Dr Giuliano Russo (Wolfson Institute of Population Health) and Prof. Pietro Panzarasa (School of Business and Management), the postholder will contribute to the design, implementation, and analysis of Discrete Choice Experiments (DCEs) and the development of Agent-Based Models (ABMs). These methods will be used to model doctors’ job choices, time allocation between public and private services, and hospital managers’ regulatory responses under alternative policy scenarios.
The role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of health policy, behavioural modelling, and computational economics, in collaboration with international academic and policy partners.
About You
Candidates should hold a PhD (or be close to completion) or equivalent research experience in a relevant discipline, such as health economics, labour economics, data science, computational social science, or a related field. We are looking for candidates who have a strong quantitative background, with experience in econometric analysis and handling complex datasets, and an understanding of the research process in applied health or policy settings.
The ideal candidate will have experience or interest in discrete choice modelling, agent-based modelling, or computational approaches to decision-making. Candidates from low- and middle-income countries are particularly encouraged to apply.
