Salary from £43,277 to £51,714 per annum inclusive with potential to progress to £55,497 pa inclusive

This is a career development research and teaching position - fixed term for two years

An LSE Fellowship is intended to be an entry route to an academic career and is deemed by LSE to be a career development position. Consequently, applicants who have already been employed as an LSE Fellow for three years in total are not eligible to apply.

The Global School of Sustainability (GSoS) is a major new interdisciplinary centre for sustainability research and impact at LSE. We are seeking to appoint up to five fixed-term LSE Fellows with expertise in the social science of sustainability.

These Fellowships provide a development opportunity for those with exceptional potential in research and scholarship. During their two-year appointments, LSE Fellows in the Social Science of Sustainability will have the opportunity to develop their research trajectory and their portfolio of contributions to education and student experience. On the latter, the main contributions may include: teaching and advising students; helping deliver a range of student learning and engagement activities (e.g. field trips and research projects); convening workshops and other events which both staff and students can contribute; helping develop lifelong learning initiatives (such as Executive Education); and/or mentoring GSoS scholarship holders at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Fellows will also be expected to contribute actively to the life of the Global School of Sustainability – attending events, stewarding visitors, being present on our campus and collaborating with us on developing new GSoS initiatives as we take these forward.

Preference may be given to applicants whose research relates directly to one or more of our five key themes: creating sustainable finance and business; generating sustainable economic growth and development; mobilising political, legal and governance systems; protecting and enhancing nature and biodiversity; building sustainable societies and behaviours.

Candidates should have a PhD in a social science discipline with substantial research experience in topics directly related to sustainability – or should have submitted their dissertation for examination by the post start date (September 2026). In addition, you should have the potential to develop a body of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and to develop a national/international reputation for research in the area of your expertise.  Relevant teaching and/or student engagement experience would be an advantage.  You must demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to foster an engaging and supportive learning environment for students, and a willingness to collaborate effectively with colleagues on  a range of projects and initiatives.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working and excellent training and development opportunities.

For further information, please see the how to apply document, job description and person specification.

If you have technical queries about applying on the online system, please use the “contact us” links at the bottom of the LSE Jobs page.

Should you have queries about the role, please email gsos@lse.ac.uk.

The closing date for receipt of applications is Thursday 12 March 2025 (23.59 UK time).

Regrettably, we are unable to accept any late applications.

Interviews are expected to be held on 27 and 28th April 2026.
