About us

The Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries (CMCI) is based in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, and is a large department with over 50 academic staff, a highly successful BA programme, and four PGT programs. We specialise in the relationship between culture, media and the creative industries and as such, foster a highly interdisciplinary teaching and research environment. Our academic staff are drawn from a variety of disciplines across the arts, humanities and social sciences, focusing our collective and impactful expertise on real world issues. Our research impact and research environment were rated as either ‘world leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*) in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF2021) results.

About the role

The Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries (CMCI) seeks to hire a Lecturer in Culture, Media & Creative Industries. This exciting new post will contribute to the excellent research profile of the Department while also engaging in teaching, leadership and pastoral support across our expanding portfolio of courses: including BA Culture, Media & Creative Industries; BA in Global Media Cultures (a new joint BA with the Department for Languages, Literatures and Cultures launching in 2027/28); MA Arts & Cultural Management, MA Cultural & Creative Industries; MA Digital Futures (online) & MA Global Media Industries.[VC1]

CMCI is distinctive in its commitment to interdisciplinarity, and the position requires teaching across a broad range of areas. Indicatively, the post will contribute to team-teaching on modules including: Culture Wars: Creative Industries in an Age of Political Populism (6AAIC011) ; Analysing the CCIs: Theories, Definitions, Debates (7AAICC63); Analysing the CCIs: Policies, Creativity, Labour (7AAICC64) ; International Heritage (7AAIC110); Youth Cultures (5AAIC009) and Culture & Activism (5AAIC006); and International Heritage and Cultural Tourism (7AAIC110). Applicants should be able to clearly evidence how their teaching and research speaks to a significant cluster of these modules with a focus on the UK, and/or Global cultures.

The post holder will also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Culture, Media & Creative Industries (or a closely related discipline), with an excellent knowledge and understanding of a field of expertise related to the above teaching requirements. They will be a highly effective educator, with experience of both face-to-face and online teaching and assessment in Higher Education, a commitment to student learning and welfare, and an aptitude for working within an interdisciplinary framework. We seek applicants who can contribute to our goals of delivering innovative, inclusive, and socially -engaged education, and the ongoing diversification of our curriculum.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
