About us

UCL Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) seeks to appoint one Lecturer (Teaching) in Philosophy of Science to contribute to taught undergraduate modules, and to undertake related academic support duties. This is a part-time (20% FTE), fixed-term appointment, available from 01 September 2026 to 31 August 2028.

About the role

The main duties of the post will involve:

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the subject area.
  • Complete marking for these modules in a timely fashion.
  • Undertake administrative duties associated with the modules and with STS degrees.
  • Contribute to the academic life of the department.

This post is not renewable. It is not subject to extension.

Please note that this position does not meet the requirements for visa sponsorship.

About you

The appointee will hold a PhD in an appropriate academic field by the time of appointment. If not degree-holding, they will show significant professional development in the area of the subject to be taught.

The post holder will have expertise in philosophy of science. They will have excellent teaching and presentation skills, as well as interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. For further details, please see the job description and person specifications at the bottom of this page.

The appointee must be available for teaching during the term and times scheduled. The approximate contact time commitment per module is 7.3 hours per week.
