About us
Our mission is to maximise and advocate for the holistic health of all children, young people and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. The 2024-29 GOS ICH strategy focuses on its five scientific programmes. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range o f teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health. GOS ICH holds an Athena SWAN Charter Gold Award. Please only attach relevant documents to your application (qualifications, cover letters, supporting statements) and avoid attaching large files e.g. research papers, thesis, publications etc.
About the role
GOSICH has five research and teaching departments, each of which is supported by a small Professional Service Support (PSS) team. These PSS teams occupy a critical role in interfacing between the departments they support and the Institute’s central PSS teams (i.e. HR, Finance, Institute Management). The successful candidate will manage the PSS team in the Population, Policy and Practice department. The team is the ‘hub’ of the Department, providing a broad and varied range of administrative support, including HR, Finance, Events, management of the Departmental webpages and social media accounts, event coordination and day-to-day operational support. We are looking for an experienced manager who has a solid foundation in all aspects of PSS support in a busy and dynamic research and teaching department environment. This post is funded until 28/02/207 in the first instance.
About you
The successful candidate will have the ability to lead, guide and develop a multi-disciplinary team to achieve an agreed goal. They will demonstrate a proven ability to plan, prioritise and manage a demanding and varied workload. They will be efficient, enthusiastic, organised and take a proactive approach to their work. They will be able to work independently, as well as part of a team. A commitment to deliver a high standard of customer service and experience in departmental administrative work within the Higher Education sector are essential. The role requires interaction with a wide range of staff both within and external to UCL, and a professional attitude, willingness to help and a positive outlook are essential
