About the Role
The position is to become a Research Assistant to Dr. Pedro Souza, who works in the intersection between Applied Econometrics and Economics of Crime. The job will entail assisting on the development and advancement of a research agenda on Crime and Criminal Justice, specifically using Brazilian administrative datasets. Several projects may be considered within that agenda. One project will be focused on a causal impact on crime victimisation on labour market outcomes, using confidential data such as employer-employee relations and the universe of crime reports in the country. It is expected that the Research Assistant will interact on weekly basis with the Dr. Pedro Souza and with external entities and researchers external to Queen Mary.

About You
The Research Assistant will join the research agenda on the economic effects of crime in Brazil, with a primary goal of developing a study on the effects of victimisation on labour market outcomes. More specifically, the position support 1) exposure to high-quality research activity with goal to be published in top journals in Economics, 2) the growth and education of the Research Assistants on the Econometric methods that are required to achieve causal findings, 3) the intensive use of data on large datasets for the execution of such tasks, 4) to clean, construct and merge different large-scale datasets from a variety of sources (e.g. police incidents and labour markets), 5) to conduct empirical analyses on the data and implement a number methods in applied microeconometrics. The ultimate goal is to assist on the production of one or more research papers in within the research agenda described above.

The School of Economics and Finance is a leader in teaching and research at both the national and international level. It has a range of both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including programmes that are jointly run with other Schools. The School has over 1000 undergraduate students, and over 500 postgraduate taught students. It offers excellent facilities and resources to enhance learning, including offering training and access to real time trading software to both UG and PGT students.
