About us:
The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is a Faculty of King's College London and the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease. The IoPPN pioneers research into new and improved ways of understanding and treating mental ill health ( http://www.kcl.ac.uk/ioppn/). The research role is based in the Psychology Department, one of the world’s largest academic groupings of clinical and health psychologists. It is one of four departments in the School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences. ( https://www.kcl.ac.uk/psychology)
About the role:
We are seeking a motivated Research Clinical Psychologist to join the innovative CIRCuiTS‑AI project within the Department of Psychology, School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences at King’s College London. This exciting programme aims to develop and evaluate an AI‑enhanced version of CIRCuiTS, an evidence‑based cognitive remediation intervention designed to reduce the impact of cognitive difficulties experienced by young people with psychosis and affective disorders. Working in partnership with HelloSelf and individuals with lived experience, the project will integrate AI‑driven features into the existing digital platform, followed by user‑testing and a full-scale randomised controlled trial.
The post‑holder will contribute to the development and validation of the AI‑supported tool and play a key role in refining study protocols to ensure they are clinically acceptable, feasible, and aligned with best therapeutic practice. A major part of the role will involve providing training, supervision, and ongoing support to cognitive remediation therapists, as well as helping to develop new interactive training resources that will support wider implementation across NHS mental health services.
The post‑holder will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including people with lived experience, software developers, industry partners, researchers, and NHS clinicians. They will also be responsible for monitoring therapeutic fidelity and adherence during the evaluation trial.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a cutting‑edge digital mental health innovation, while supporting high‑quality research and enhancing access to evidence‑based care for young people. Applicants will require strong organisational, communication, and clinical skills, along with the ability to represent and promote the project effectively.
Based at King’s College London, you will be expected to uphold all university policies and professional standards while contributing to a groundbreaking programme of research aimed at transforming the delivery of digital psychological therapies in mental health services.
This is a 40% FTE (14 hours per week) post on a fixed term contract for 2 years in the first instance, with the possibility to extend until May 2031. The earliest start date is 1st of June 2026.
Research staff at King’s are entitled to professional development through the Centre for Research Staff Development.
