As the DBA Programme Officer you will lead the administrative team supporting the Doctor of Business Administration (Higher Education Management), as well as the International Centre for Higher Education Management (ICHEM).

About us

The Doctoral College supports and enriches the experience of doctoral researchers and plays a key role in developing policy and strategy for doctoral study. It also supports recruitment to doctoral study programmes, manages student and programme administration, provides professional skills development and helps students to feel supported, from enquiry through to graduation, wherever and however they choose to study.

The DBA (HEM) is a highly respected professional doctorate programme, run by the School of Management. It is the only programme of its kind, designed specifically for university leaders from around the world.  It emphasises sharing knowledge between Higher Education (HE) professionals through a series of residentials, Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) and peer-to-peer support.  Since 1994, ICHEM has been at the heart of higher education research, bringing together leading scholars as a centre for higher education research.  ICHEM experts lead the DBA in Higher Education Management, as well as teaching on the programme and supervising the research stage.

About the role

Working with the academic Director of Studies to ensure that the programme is run efficiently and effectively, you will be:

  • responsible for managing the application process, as well as progression and examination processes for all students on the programme; making sure that they occur in a timely manner and according to all relevant University regulations.
  • in regular communication with potential applicants and students, and you will be a key point of contact for the programme across the University. Our students are far from your traditional university student, rather, they are usually mid-career professionals with busy full-time careers, who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the programme.
  • part of the wider Doctoral College and will work collaboratively with academic and other professional service colleagues, to support and enhance the experience of all applicants to, and students on, the programme.

About you

The role comprises an exciting mix of both taught and research student administration. Recognising that this mix of experience is rare, we welcome applications from colleagues with a range of different backgrounds (not just from HE), who, whilst may not have direct experience of such programmes, can demonstrate an ability to adapt to new challenges.

We are looking for someone who:

  • can work to deadlines on your own initiative
  • has the ability to learn new systems and procedures
  • is keen to proactively identify and implement positive changes
  • has excellent communication skills, and who can engage with the wide range of individuals and groups
  • is able to mentor and motivate the programme administrator, who you will line manage, to deliver their tasks and develop their skills.
