This internal secondment or fixed-term position is an ideal early career development opportunity for a university professional eager to learn how the University of Cambridge is governed.

As the Governance Coordinator, you will play a vital role in enabling the University's top decision-making bodies to function effectively. You will be responsible for ensuring that essential committee-related administrative processes operate smoothly, to deadline, and to a high professional standard. You will manage essential governance processes, handle high-level administrative support, and act as a key point of contact for senior officers, including the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Principal committee support: producing non-meeting reading packs for the Council and General Board, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • High-level administration: delivering support for Council business, managing logistics, and organizing strategic away days.
  • Process coordination: improving governance-related administrative processes, managing web and intranet presences, and providing financial administration.
  • Secretary support: providing secretary or assistant secretary support for various committees, including drafting agendas and minutes.

About you:

We are looking for a high-capability individual with a "can-do" attitude and an aptitude for fast learning. Previous experience in governance is not essential. We welcome applications from individuals who can demonstrate:

  • Exceptional communication: the ability to liaise confidently and tactfully with staff at all levels and write clearly for diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills: The ability to manage a varied workload and meet conflicting deadlines while remaining calm under pressure.
  • Attention to detail: A high standard of accuracy and the ability to handle sensitive personal information with complete discretion.
  • Team spirit: a willingness to work flexibly and cooperatively as part of a dedicated and supportive team.

About the Governance and Compliance Division: the GCD ensures good governance and oversees risk management, compliance, and assurance across the University.

For a full person specification, key responsibilities and essential requirements, which your application will be scored against, please see the Further Particulars.

Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term until 31 March 2027 or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
