The role

The Bristol Aerospace Research Centre at the University of Bristol is seeking a permanent academic position specialising in aerodynamics. We invite applications from candidates with expertise in aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, aeroelasticity, environmental fluid mechanics, turbulence, either computational or experimental, committed to advancing both research & teaching.

This position presents a unique opportunity to join a world-renowned research team at the forefront of aerodynamics. Successful candidates will contribute to ongoing research, collaborate with leading academics on innovative research projects, and play an active role in the development & delivery of teaching materials. Additional responsibilities include mentoring students and supporting undergraduate research projects.

The successful candidate will be appointed to Associate Professor (Grade L) or Professor (Grade M), based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.

What will you be doing?

The role holder will be responsible for research, teaching, and related administration, at both undergraduate and postgraduate taught levels. For the Associate Professor level, the role will entail leadership in developing and overseeing research and teaching activities at all levels. They will make a significant contribution to leadership and/or management within both research and teaching.  They will contribute to the delivery of high-quality research, undergraduate and postgraduate levels teaching, and undertake academic leadership roles. The appointees at the Associate Professor level should demonstrate a proven track record in independent teaching and research, securing external funding, developing long-term strategic plans, and contributing to the management & leadership activities within the group. 

For appointment to Professor (Grade M), candidates are expected to demonstrate a sustained and distinguished track record across all criteria, exceeding that required at Associate Professor level. At this grade, there should be clear evidence of success in securing substantial industrial research funding as principal investigator, as well as a strong ability to initiate, develop, and lead long-term strategic partnerships with industry.
