Are you an organised, hands-on administrator looking for a permanent, full-time role in a supportive and intellectually stimulating teaching environment?

The Department of Archaeology is delighted to invite applications for an Undergraduate Administrator to join its friendly, close knit team supporting teaching and admissions activity. 

About the role 

This varied and rewarding role places you at the heart of the undergraduate experience, acting as the first point of contact for our Archaeology students, as well as supporting a wider community of borrowing students from other departments. 

You will be working collaboratively with academic and professional colleagues, and playing a key role in ensuring the smooth delivery of undergraduate teaching and assessment, the coordination of examinations, and the successful organisation of fieldtrips and fieldwork training.  

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with students, thrives in a supportive team environment, and takes pride in delivering high quality administrative support.

Key responsibilities

  • Acting as point of contact for Undergraduate students.
  • Maintaining student records.
  • Working with examiners on processing coursework and exams.
  • Assisting the Subject Convenor during the admissions period.
  • Assist with servicing the Director of Studies of Committee.
  • Assisting the Fieldwork Coordinator in the organisation of fieldtrips and fieldwork training.
  • Working with academic and administrative staff across the University, including the Departments.
  • Maintaining accurate records of students borrowing papers both in and out of the department. 

About you: 

You will bring enthusiasm, and a positive, solutions focused approach to the role, enjoying the opportunity to make a real difference to the student experience. Comfortable working both independently and as part of a supportive team, you will bring the following skills and experience: 

  • Strong organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail and pride in delivering accurate, high quality work
  • Experience in a university administrative environment, with an understanding of Tripos management is desirable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a friendly, approachable manner
  • Confidence and enjoyment in working in a student facing role, offering clear and helpful support
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with confidence adapting to systems such as Moodle and CamSIS
  • A professional, discreet approach, with a clear appreciation of the importance of confidentiality
  • Educated to A level standard, NVQ level 3 or 4, or equivalent level of practical experience
  • A good general education, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
