The role holder will have a PhD already awarded (or to be awarded by the time of the appointment) in the relevant subject area, or equivalent professional qualification, with teaching experience at undergraduate level in Modern and/or Contemporary History.
The purpose of this role is to provide high quality teaching in Modern History. You will have specialist knowledge on the history of Africa and European empires in the twentieth century. The role holder will convene and teach a second-year undergraduate module, HIST2051: ‘Villains or Victims? Additionally, the role holder may supervise undergraduate dissertations and undertake administrative tasks as directed by Head of Department.
The role holder will contribute to an exceptional education for undergraduates in History and the Department’s teaching culture. The role holder will also contribute positively to the Department’s and School’s initiatives in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
We in the Department are welcoming, supportive, and caring, conscious that diversity in our community is fundamental to our values and vital to our success. The role holder will be able to demonstrate an ability to make a positive difference to issues of underrepresentation. We are particularly keen to receive applications from people currently underrepresented in the field of History, such as those from marginalised genders, people with disabling conditions, and people from Black, Asian, or minority ethnic backgrounds.
Shortlisting is anonymous: we cannot see any personal data or the ‘Additional Information’ section in your application until shortlisting is completed. Shortlisting is by criteria-based questions based on the person specification, rather than a CV or letter.
