Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for a Demonstrator to join the teaching team on the MSc Psychology Conversion programme, and support the School of Psychological Sciences this Autumn 2026.
You will assist in the delivery of predetermined programmes of teaching to Birkbeck Psychological Science students, under academic supervision, to facilitate the successful completion of their studies. You should engage in the scholarship necessary to ensure good practice in teaching and to apply appropriate levels of knowledge in the subject areas to be taught.
Duties include assisting students as they work through pre-prepared pen and paper / computer based introductory research methods exercises including tasks about descriptive statistics, simple inferential statistical tests (t-test, chi-square, one-way and two-way ANOVA, linear regression, correlation), parts of a lab report, writing a pre-registration.
Please note that marking lab reports is required for this role and attendance to a two-hour marking training is required (date to be confirmed). You will be paid for attending the marking training and for the lab report marking separately.
Most individuals undertaking these roles will be employed as part of their general academic development to obtain practical teaching experience and will be undertaking this work independently but in parallel with postgraduate studies.

Salary:
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £24.55 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, and other examining duties in connection with the course.
