The University of Hull is seeking to appoint a proactive and organised Specialist Technician to support teaching, research and applied activity within the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences.
The School delivers teaching, research and professional practice across sport science, sports coaching, biomechanics, exercise physiology, sports rehabilitation, physiotherapy, dietetics and occupational health. Our specialist facilities include sports rehabilitation teaching clinics and treatment spaces, a high-specification strength and conditioning suite, an environmental chamber, and a multifunctional Health and Human Performance Laboratory equipped with advanced biomechanical and physiological assessment technologies.
Working as part of the Faculty Technical Services Team, you will provide technical and operational support for undergraduate and postgraduate practical teaching, student research projects, laboratory-based research activity, consultancy, outreach and engagement. You will assist staff and students in the safe and effective use of specialist sport, exercise science and rehabilitation equipment, ensuring laboratory and clinical teaching environments are well prepared, safe, organised and maintained.
Key duties will include preparing laboratory spaces and equipment, supporting practical teaching sessions, demonstrating laboratory procedures and equipment operation, undertaking routine equipment checks and calibration, maintaining accurate records, monitoring consumables, supporting health and safety procedures, and liaising with academic staff, technical colleagues, students and external partners.
We are looking for someone with relevant laboratory experience in sport, exercise science, biomechanics, sports rehabilitation or a closely related area. You will have a relevant degree, equivalent qualification or appropriate practical experience, alongside strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills. You should be confident working with staff and students, able to prioritise your own workload, and committed to delivering a high-quality technical service.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a teaching and research environment and who is keen to contribute to the ongoing development of specialist facilities supporting sport, exercise and rehabilitation sciences.
