The University of Hertfordshire is looking for a skilled, motivated and proactive Data Analyst to join our Insight Team to support the University in transforming lives and achieving its strategic goals.
Main duties and responsibilities
As a member of the Insight team, your key responsibility will not only be to report on existing trends and ongoing recruitment performance but to identify and evaluate opportunities. To achieve this, you would be expected to be able to interpret and convert large complex data sets, using a range of methods and data transformation tools such as Tableau Prep or Microsoft Excel, into appropriate formatting for data visualisation. Most commonly, this would involve analysing data published by UCAS, HESA or our own admissions data.
You will also be asked to create forecasts and models on university applications and acceptances and summarise and present comprehensive analytical findings in a variety of formats (including written reports), targeting different audiences to help convey key messages and inform Departmental or University policy and decision-making. The Data Analyst would additionally undertake bespoke research and analyses in response to requests from the department.
Skills and experience required
You will have experience working within a similar market intelligence focused insight/research/ analytical role and demonstrable experience of constructively challenging assumptions and traditional views, identifying issues and generating/implementing new, and adapting the tried and tested approaches to develop solutions to challenges and opportunities. Demonstrable experience of using specialist analytical and reporting software or advanced functionality of Microsoft Excel, employing a range of practices to analyse and explain complex data sets and demonstrable experience of using data visualisation software e.g. Tableau, Qlikview and Power BI to help uncover the stories behind the data is essential.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of a Degree or equivalent in a numerical subject such as Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or similar or equivalent proven experience.
