Main duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will be the University’s go-to insight lead for primary research and portfolio insight connecting colleagues to our audiences and markets, delivering actionable recommendations to uncover opportunities, expose threats and inspire positive, sustainable change for the University. You will work with stakeholders to fully understand their priorities, areas of activity and requirements and ensure that appropriate insights and support are provided and produce clear, accurate and insightful reports for University senior management, comparing UH and sector performance or setting out insight and analysis likely to have a bearing on future University strategy, for example.
You will Interpret a wide range of data from varying sources, covering all areas of recruitment, brand and development and related activity including competitor benchmarking, brand health tracking and course tariff/fees market benchmarking. Alongside this, you will influence and inform the student recruitment, communications and development strategy, planning and decision making through proactive provision and use of clear and detailed insight and analysis, working with the Head of Insight and the Senior Management Team as needed.
In this role you will work with, and supply relevant data to, external agencies and contacts, undertaking external benchmarking activities, supplying complex communications data and compiling Marketing & Communications response to Freedom of Information requests, for example. Alongside this you will operationally manage the primary research and portfolio research capabilities of the Insight Team ensuring best practice and efficient use of resources, including carrying out appraisals and reviews, identifying training needs, dealing with people management issues arising within the team.
Skills and experience required
You will have extensive experience delivering strategic insight projects, extensive experience of using data/online analytics to deliver actionable insight and experience of project management relating to complex and large-scale research. Demonstrable experience of using specialist reporting software or advanced functionality of Microsoft Excel, employing a range of practices to analyse and explain complex data sets is essential as is an understanding of, and experience of working with large, complex, relational databases.
A comprehensive understanding of research methods, tools and techniques is essential as is a proven track record in understanding and using data to deliver actionable insight and highly developed analytical skills with a data driven approach to decision making. You will have the ability to communicate complex data and insight to a wide variety of stakeholders with excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong influencing skills. Experience in managing and leading a team is essential as is being highly organised and flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of a Degree or equivalent or equivalent proven relevant experience.
