About the role

As a Clinical Demonstrator in Optometry (Teaching Focused) within the School of Healthcare, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the University’s new, innovative optometry programme. This campus-based position centres on clinical teaching and supervision, ensuring students receive a high-quality, research-inspired educational experience that meets the expectations of regulatory bodies, employers and learners alike. You will contribute to teaching, assessment and the ongoing development of curriculum content, helping to design and deliver engaging, inclusive and forward-thinking learning activities aligned with the University’s strategic themes of Research Inspired Education and Our Citizens.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the programme and wider School, you will support a culture of excellence in teaching and student experience, including providing formative feedback, pastoral support and participation in assessments. You will also contribute to broader University and public engagement activities, enhancing the external profile of the discipline and ensuring that the programme reflects both societal needs and the University’s commitment to impactful, inclusive education.

About you

You will hold a degree in Optometry or a related discipline and be a registered professional with the General Optical Council or an equivalent regulatory body, with a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience. You will bring demonstrable experience of supporting learning and teaching, ideally within optometry education, alongside a clear commitment to developing your teaching practice and delivering a student experience. Your expertise will complement the existing strengths of the School and support the continued development of an ambitious and high-quality programme.

With strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, you will be confident working both independently and collaboratively, and able to engage and motivate students across a range of teaching settings.
