About the Role

We are offering an exciting and unique opportunity for an experienced postdoctoral researcher to deliver a translational programme at the interface of academia and industry, joining a multidisciplinary team assessing the effects of an investigational drug in Ulcerative colitis (UC).

The post-holder will be the Oxford-based wet lab postdoc working under the supervision of Dr Matthias Friedrich in close collaboration with AbbVie, Oxford Hospitals/NHS and Oxford research groups. The research project focuses in on multi-omic and functional profiling of the effects of an investigational drug in the blood and tissue of patients with UC, collected as part of a clinical Phase1b trial.

Key responsibilities include designing and executing in-depth immunomonitoring strategies, analysing patient samples from clinical studies, and interrogating biologic mechanisms by data analysis and interpretation. Being located at both the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, the postholder will collaborate closely with clinical investigators (Prof. Simon Travis, Prof. Christopher Buckley, Dr Alissa Walsh, clinical fellows), bioinformaticians (computational postdoctoral researcher in Dr Calliope Dendrou’s lab), and our industry partner (AbbVie) to generate critical insights as the trial progresses toward first readouts.

The post-holder will report directly to Dr Matthias Friedrich and lead the wet lab experimental profiling, including patient biosample processing and banking, profiling, optimisation of assays, setting up infrastructure and sample flows, interpretation and reporting of results. A highly collaborative team science spirit is essential as is the strong expertise and meticulous conduct of experiments, in compliance with the Human Tissue Act (2004) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Anticipated outcomes of the project will be scientific publications and results supporting decision-making processes for the industrial partner.
